It’s the first of February, which means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! If you’re on the hunt for some cute party decor, this sweet DIY centerpiece is sure to win guests’ hearts.
Shopping List
  • Conversation hearts (this took two bags)
  • Ribbon
  • Wood dowel
  • Tin (or pot or small bowl)
  • Styrofoam ball and base
  • Glue gun
Step 1: Make Your Base
Cut a piece of styrofoam to fit in the bottom of your bucket. Make sure it’s nice and snug down there so it can safely support the topiary. Next, wrap your wood dowel in the cute ribbon and glue it at each end. Tie a little bow on if you please!
Step 2: Glue to Your Heart’s Desire
This part of the project will be much easier (and faster) if you have a helping hand. One person glues while the other assembles the candy hearts to the styrofoam ball. One by one, add a dot of hot glue on the back of each conversation heart. Work your way around the ball, piecing the hearts together as puzzle-like as possible—and don’t fret if a little white shows through. Make sure to leave a small space for the dowel!
Step 3: Assemble the Topiary
Carefully poke one end of the dowel into your candy heart ball. Then, do the same at the base. Cover the base styrofoam with the left over candy… and voila! Your sweet DIY is ready to display and delight.
